I’m forever yours… Faithfully

This might seem like the strangest post you have read in a long long time; or you might just relate to it. I’m not sure which category you belong to, but this is what I have to say.

She was always beautiful. The moment I saw her, I knew we were going to have a great time.

I have a car. A ‘magic black’ automatic Lancer I got as a gift from my parents when I graduated.

This car has has been my close pal since then. I have won races, enjoyed peaceful drives, had fun holidays and an amazing time with this car. Sometimes when I drive alone I even talk to my car. When I am in a  good mood, I sing for her. And when I am sad and need someone to just quietly listen and watch me, my car has never let me down.

All the midnight dates after leaving late from work, romantic drives after dropping all the friends and listening to the best music when its just the two of us… I’ll never forget all this.

This car did not just befriend me, but also looked after my family when I was abroad, studying for my MBA. On the Christmas eve of 2008,  my parents and 2 other friends went on a holiday. They got slightly delayed in their day travel and hence did not reach the destination before it could get dark. What happened thereafter was a disaster. A truck collided with my car head on, in the middle of a deserted national highway. A lot of damage and a lot of running around happened after that. But the best part – my Lancer did not let anyone get hurt. She took all the wounds and all the damage. She proved her friendship once again.

I came back to Bombay in 2010. Life continued, but my car was not like before. She always listened to me and came out with me and we did all our usual fun stuff. But her comfort with the road had reduced to half. Driving the Lancer everyday to work was getting expensive and the wear and tear was too heavy on my pocket.

Today I am going to buy a new car. Or to put it in better words, I am about to make a new friend. So I would like to say a big thank you to my Lancer and make a promise that I will look after her for as long as I can afford. We will go out every weekend and I will talk to you always.

And if someday we have to drift apart I want you to know and remember that I’m forever yours.

Here is a little song I would like to dedicate to my sweetheart car.

Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You’re on my mind

Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sending all my love along the wire
They say that the road
Ain’t no place to start a family
Right down the line it’s been you and me
And loving a music man
Ain’t always what it’s supposed to be
Oh Girl
You stand by me
I’m forever yours
Faithfully

Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns to make us smile

Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am lost without you
And being apart ain’t easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscovering you
Oh girl
You stand by me
I’m forever yours
Faithfully

I’m still yours
I’m forever yours
Ever yours
Faithfully

I totally relate to it…:) on my 20th bday my parents gave me a scooty – a Honda activa.it has been my confidante on lot of occasions and the thought of parting with it is just too overwhelming for me… a lot of people do not put so much emotion in a machine – but i totally understand where u r coming from….:)

The subject made me feel that you have written something about MR. RR… so i was here to flick a few statements….

But now i know there is someone else in your life as well, someone who came in much before Mr. RR…

Anyways, all the best for your new car…

I can totally relate to it… Infact its quiet a emotional moment (a biker friend of mine had shed tears when he had to give up on his bullet in college days coz of a accident)… My bike will always be my 1st love, the feeling that you get driving her is something else… No matter how comfortable and safe the car is its always my bike(honda Unicorn) will be my first choice…. Memories of college days of all the long drives, races, fun trips are as fresh as yesterday… Had to reduce travelling on it as its just too dangerous today thanks to may of the reckless drivers around… guess its only memories that we can hold on to forever….

BTW congo on your new car… Wish you many happy memories for years to come.. 🙂

A real love story between Man and the Machine! Very neatly portrayed, Devdarshini.

I feel you’ve ‘represented’ that part of the mass who like their space and their proud possessions complete that space. It’s like saying ‘Leave me alone (with my car)!’.

Reminds me of one incidence when I used to live in Pune – just me, my house and my car. One of the days, our building secretary insisted (forced) me to attend building’s ‘General Body Meeting’. It was more boring than I anticipated, and one hour down it was far from ending. I suddenly happened to see my car in the parking lot. Made some really silly excuse to walk out for a ‘minute’, rushed to my car and took off! In less than five minutes I had hit the Bombay-Bangalore highway. And what followed was the best one hour of my life – lone time – just me and my car!

Again, one of the best part about this article being the simpler words and clear (honest) picturization of your feelings. Keep blogging! 🙂
